Making Law School Affordable: Scholarships for October - November 2023

Happy October! We hope you are drinking many fall-themed drinks and enjoying the cool weather. Application season has begun and future law students have begun writing their law school admission essays. Students should be working on application essays and begin thinking about financial aid.

While you are waiting for FAFSA to open in December, you should be thinking about scholarships! You should apply to as many scholarships as you can. If you do this, you will feel more confident completing the FAFSA because you have already received financial support via the scholarships you have received. We have gathered a few organizations offering financial support for future (and current) law students. Learn more below! 

The General Council of Attorneys P.C. is a private law firm that offers counsel to businesses. The firm is offering a scholarship to two first-generation law students. A first-generation law student is defined as someone whose immediate family members (grandparents, parents and siblings) never attended law school. Students who apply must be in their second year of law school. Applicants must submit an essay describing their personal journey and one letter of recommendation. The Aaron Wersing Scholarship Contest asks law students about the rights of government workers. Applicants must answer whether they believe federal employees are offered more protection than other workers. This scholarship is only open to students currently enrolled in law school. The winner will receive $1,500. All applications are due by November 18th. Students can apply here

The Alfred and Clark Injury Attorneys hope to support law students who need financial assistance. The firm is offering $2,000 through its Students In Need Scholarship. Applicants must submit a video describing how they will use their legal careers to support those in need. Additionally, students must provide proof of enrollment and a statement of financial need. The OVC Scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate institution or law school. Applicants must imagine they have graduated from law school and starting their own practice. The student must write an essay stating your firm practice area, the kind of clients you will serve, how you will differentiate your practice from others, and the values your practice will esteem.  The essay should be no more than 500 words. The Clark Law Group is offering $1,000 to an undergraduate or graduate student whose parents have a military background. Students must submit an essay where they describe how they serve the public with their degree and future career. Essays should be between 500-1,000 words. Students are also required to submit proof of military service by their parent. All applications are due by November 29th, 2023. Interested students can learn more here.

The Emery Reddy Law Firm is offering $2,000 to a current law student. Applicants must write an essay where they describe why they want to become a lawyer and their future aspirations within the legal profession. Creativity is encouraged but the essay must be 400-600 words. All applications must be submitted by November 30th. The money received can only be used for tuition and cannot be used for other expenses. Click here to apply.

The Lucas Law Firm specializes in business and real estate law. The firm is offering a scholarship worth $1,000 for any student pursuing a career in the legal field. Applicants must write an essay describing their legal aspirations and how their personal strengths will help them achieve their goals. It is very important that applicant’s essays are approximately 500 words. In addition to the essay, students must submit proof of enrollment and their academic transcript.
