Particularly for BIPOC and first-generation students, numerous resources exist to mitigate the financial barriers that may impede their journey to law school. In the realm of financial assistance, myriad organizations extend their support to current and prospective law school students. Seizing the chance to apply for these scholarships broadens the horizons of financial aid available to you. With that in mind, we've meticulously compiled a catalog of scholarships offering financial assistance specifically with deadlines in April and May 2024.
American Bar Association (ABA) Legal Opportunity Scholarship: The American Bar Association (ABA) awards an annual Legal Opportunity Scholarship to first-year law students. The mission of the program is to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to apply to law school and to provide financial assistance to attend and complete law school. The ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship grants 10 - 20 incoming diverse law students with $15,000 of financial aid over their three years in law school. Since its inception, more than 400 students from across the country have received the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship. The deadline for this scholarship is April 15, 2024.
Han C. Choi Scholarship: The NAPABA Law Foundation has partnered with the Choi Family to create the Han C. Choi Scholarship, to honor a NAPABA Trailblazer, mentor and leader, who embodies grit and courage in the face of great adversity. The Scholarship Fund will benefit a 1L or 2L law student who exhibits academic excellence, leadership, volunteerism, mentorship experience, and demonstrates an interest in AAPI civic issues. Special consideration will also be given to applicants who have been adversely affected by cancer (as a survivor, or family member of a victim or survivor). The deadline for this scholarship is April 19, 2024.
New Jersey State Bar Foundation Scholarship: For more than 40 years, the New Jersey State Bar Foundation has awarded scholarships to students entering their second or third year at a New Jersey law school. From one scholarship in 1975 to 17 today, the Foundation is proud to foster pride in the legal profession by supporting education of future lawyers. 10+ different scholarships are available. The deadline for scholarships is April 19, 2024.
LMJ Scholarship Program: The LMJ Scholarship is a program that seeks to nurture the academic and professional careers of outstanding law students. The scholarship is open to students who have: been accepted to an ABA-accredited law school on a full-time basis; an outstanding or promising academic record; an interest in corporate law; demonstrated community service and leadership qualities; a financial need; and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The LMJ Scholarship grants scholarships of $10,000 to students for their first year of law school. In addition to financial support, LMJ scholars are connected with peers, alumni, and mentors, who are available to provide professional support, such as guidance on addressing academic or personal obstacles that arise over the course of their legal careers. The deadline for this scholarship is April 13, 2024.
ChIPs Scholarship: ChIPs established the ChIPs Scholarship to encourage women to pursue a career in intellectual property law. The award is awarded annually to an academically qualified 3L law student who has demonstrated commitment to ChIPs core mission of advancing and connecting women in technology, law, and policy. The award is paid to the student’s school to be used for tuition. The deadline for this scholarship is April 15, 2024.
Ocean County Bar Association Scholarship: The Ocean County Bar cordially invites you to apply to be one of our 2024 John J. DeVincens Memorial Scholarship recipients. The Scholarship will be awarded May 1, 2024 at the OCBA’s Annual Law Day Celebration. A scholarship is awarded each year to an Ocean County resident to assist them in their academic pursuits at any A.B.A. accredited law school. All awards are distributed at the discretion of the OCBA Scholarship Committee.The John. J. DeVincens Scholarship is offered to a student who resides in Ocean County, participates in community activities, successfully submits the application packet and demonstrates financial need. The deadline for this scholarship is April 12, 2024.
Waple & Houk Scholarship: Waple & Houk, PLLC will be awarding a $1000 scholarship to a student pursuing an undergraduate degree in pre-law studies, or a student entering law school in 2024. This is to be used exclusively for tuition or other related expenses. Students must be accepted into a program at any U.S. school for 2024 and have a GPA of 3.0 or above. The deadline for this scholarship is April 30, 2024.
Richard D. Hailey Law Student Scholarship: Each year, AAJ's Minority Caucus awards a $5,000 scholarship to a minority Law Student member entering their first, second, or third year of law school. Additionally, the winner receives a registration and travel stipend to attend the AAJ Annual Convention. The deadline for this scholarship is May 1, 2024.
Marilynne Graboys Wool Scholarship: Thanks to the generosity of many Rhode Islanders, the Foundation is able to offer scholarships and fellowships to students from middle school to post-graduate level, from communities throughout the state, and in many different fields of study. All Rhode Island students, regardless of immigration status, are eligible to apply. Most of our scholarships now require the completion of a universal eligibility quiz and application. Please complete the eligibility quiz for your chosen program and, if you are eligible, you will be guided to the application. To be considered for a scholarship, please be sure to complete and submit both the eligibility quiz and application by April 15, 2024.
